An artist who makes hip-hop, r&b, alternative and reggae music since 1994 growing up in the Norwich and New London areas of Connecticut before moving to Pompano Beach in 1997. A passion for all things art, his main hobbies are World of Warcraft and his extensive action figure collection that he makes content on YouTube for.
By day, Jim McDonald is a mild-mannered IT administrator. By night, he becomes Glowbot, a horror-comedy punk superhero who writes, performs, and records music as Karaoke Knightmare.
At least, that's how Glowbot tells it.
Karaoke Knightmare began when Jim remarked to his wife that nobody seemed to write fun Thanksgiving songs. Her response was simple: “So fix it.” The result was I'm a Turkey for You, followed a month later by Christmas Eve Zombie Apocalypse. What started as an attempt to impress his wife became an excuse to finally make the horror-punk record he'd wanted to make since discovering the Misfits.
Karaoke Knightmare mixes horror punk and 80s/90s pop punk with comedy, gothic theatrics, and a healthy disregard for good taste. Influences range from the Misfits, Blitzkid, the Dickies, Masked Intruder, Millencolin, and the Pixies to gothic royalty Aurelio Voltaire, while Dr. Demento, Weird Al, Weird Paul, and Morrissey provide inspiration for the project's humor, sarcasm, and wordplay.
The project came into focus while Jim was writing the theme for Spooky Happy Hour, the horror-comedy show he created with hsi wife, Jen. The resulting album, From Beyond!, occupies the same strange territory: somewhere between horror punk, cult cinema, cosmic horror, and comedy. Inspired by films such as In the Mouth of Madness and From Beyond, as well as a deep and possibly unhealthy love of the Cthulhu mythos, the record is populated by monsters, zombies, bad ideas, and worse decisions.
Jim writes, plays, and produces the music, while Glowbot serves as the fictional frontman. Together, they form a two-headed one-person band with one simple mission: make the horror-comedy record they want to hear.
